Also known as "Toothbrush-handle rugs"- it is thefamily craft. I believe it is a variant on the old Scandinavian craft called Naalbinding and has been described by those who actually understand needle crafts as a hybrid of knitting and crocheting.

Yeh, it really is a blast from the past... about as olde tyme a craft as there is. I think it goes back to the vikings who used needles made from horn. But its so easy, and the results are so beautiful and durable, I'd really like to publicize and popularize it more.
I even deleted my old blogger blog (which had gone dormant anyway) and created a new one, hoping it would show up better in search engines- toothbrushrugs.blogspot.com
So I may be doing a lot more posting there, and less here.
